This Idea Challenge on the utilization of geothermal resources in food production in Northeast Iceland was held by EIMUR in cooperation with Íslensk verðbréf, Nýsköpunarmiðstöð Íslands(Innovation Center Iceland) and Matarauður Íslands(Iceland’s Culinary Treasures). There were no restrictions on the type of food production being suggested. The goal was to receive varied ideas on the utilization of geothermal sources in food production, such as the production of protein, oils or additives as well as primary production and further food processing.

Twenty ideas were submitted and four were chosen to compete in a final event held in Hof on May 15th, 2018. The winning idea was chosen: "Rearing Insects on Geothermal Energy- TULCIS – The Insect Farm to Feed the Future" submitted by Torsten Ullrich and Christin Irma Schröder. The received the prize of 2 million ISK. The runner up was the idea: "Ræktun á heitsjávarrækju á Hjalteyri við Eyjafjörð" which covers the farming of warm water shrimps at Hjalteyri in Eyjafjörður.
